Cultural and historical treasures

There is something to discover everywhere, and almost every corner of the centuries-old sacred building contains a cultural, historical or Christian treasure. If you want to explore them all, you should take your time - not least to soak up the special charm and unique atmosphere of the church. It is not for nothing that the collegiate basilica is one of the most important sacred buildings in Aschaffenburg and is also known far beyond the city limits. Today's collegiate basilica was built in the 10th century as the center of the monastery of St. Peter and Alexander. In the following years, the church and the college developed into a defining factor for Aschaffenburg and underwent many changes over the course of time.

In addition to the abbey treasury - a collection of goldsmith's work and liturgical objects - these include the Ottonian crucifix from the 10th century, the painting "Lamentation of Christ" by Matthias Grünewald, the "Maria Schnee Chapel" and the unique Romanesque cloister.
