Our Blue Sheep

Friedensherde welcomes guests and encourages tolerance and solidarity

A flock of blue sheep greets the guests of the Schmerlenbach conference centre. The artwork is a peace project by the artist Rainer Bonk. In the herd, everyone is equal, even if the direction of view can be very different. On the basis of the appreciation of others, our flock is an appeal for peaceful coexistence, for tolerant and solidarity-based thinking and acting.

The unmistakable, bright blue of the herd immediately captivates the gaze of the guests and only on closer inspection does it make him realize that the individual herd members are always one and the same figure, only in different positioning. This realization, combined with the symbolism of the herd as human togetherness, is the central message of the art project: Everyone is equal - everyone is important.

Beyond all ethnological, religious or cultural differences and with their very special charm, the Blue Sheep want to give food for thought, point out what unites and promote peaceful coexistence and tolerance, on the basis of appreciation of the other.
Blue is the colour of the EU, the UN, Unesco and Unicef. It is also the colour of the European peace movement and therefore ideally suited for the project. In the Schmerelenbach conference centre, it symbolises the connection of all people with each other.
